The 17u White had an impressive run over the weekend at the Vero Beach Classic finishing 5-1.
Elite Squad 17u White won their pool by going 3-0. In the playoffs the Squad would have to take on tough opponents from the very first round in the CBC RiverHawks. After managing a 6-3 win the Squad beat the #1 overall seed Renegades Baseball 18u 6-0 moving them into the championship game.
The Elite Squad would face an a opponent they were very familiar with. Familiar with them because most of the players from the South Florida Breakers played in the Elite Squad 17u program last year and are now playing in their last summer with the Breakers as they get ready to head to college.
It was a 0-0 game heading into the top of the 6th inning when the transformer on field 1 blew and had them switch fields into the stadium. The game resumed and the score remained 0-0 until the bottom of the seventh when former Elite Squad catcher John McNamara (J-Mac) belted the game winning single deep to left field corner giving the Breakers a 1-0 win.
It was definitley a bitter sweet moment as our current Elite Squad team lost in a heartbreaker but if you had to lose, this might have been the only time it didn’t kill you in the normal fashion a game like that would. It was nice to see the former players who set a foundation of what Elite Squad Baseball is about, celebrate one last time in front of us before they start their college careers.
Congratulations to the 17u Elite Squad White on a terrific tournament and congratulations to the former Elite Squad Players as well. You will always be part of the Squad and we couldnt be any more proud of you guys!
