The South Florida Elite Squad traveled up to Vero Beach, FL to compete in the USSSA Super NIT this past weekend to earn a berth to the USSSA Elite World Series in July. The team won its pool play and playoff games in dominating fashion going 4-0 on the way to the championship game.
The Elite Squad would now take on a familiar foe in the championship game in the Orlando Scorpions. The Elite Squad and Orlando Scorpions are used to doing battle at the older (high school) ages but this would have been the first time the 14u teams would have matched up against each other. Although the Elite Squad and Scorpions have beaten each other up over the past few years on the field they are actually good friends off the field, and have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. This would have been a no doubt classic Elite vs Scorpions championship bout if it had not been for the monsoon that came down 30 minutes before the championship game canceling the game and awarding both teams as Co-Champions.
Because of the cancellation of the championship game both teams were awareded with a berth to the Elite WS!
Congratulations to the young players of the Elite Squad on another outstanding tournament! These players are definitely carrying the tradition set before them in our inaugural year of having a 14u program.
