2016 RHP Evan McKendry has committed to the University of Miami!!!!
Evan came to our program as a freshman and played on our 15u last year. The program actually knew Evan when he was just 13 years old and his arm always stood out as being a plus tool for him. However, like most good athlete’s at 13-14yr old age he still considered himself a hitter and pitched on occasion. Last year, at the 15u level , still considered a two way guy his innings increased on the mound and you started to really see his ability shine as a pitcher.
Evan came to our Prospect Camp (tryouts) in December to try and earn himself a spot once again on the Elite Squad. At the prospect camp Evan showed well defensively at third base and offensively during BP. However, he starred on the mound during the event. It was apparent to the coaches that he had a chance to be special on the mound. We invited Evan to once again play with the Elite Squad, this time as a pitcher only because we knew the potential he had on the mound and if he dedicated 100% of his time to pitching he was going to pitch for a D1 school in the future. It wasn’t that easy of a decision for Evan because he has always considered himself a two-way player and even is a regular in the line up for his high school. However, Evan trusted and believed his coaches and dedicated himself to pitching full time.
His dedication & trust certainly paid off as he turned heads all summer long running his fastball up to 91 mph showing great command and the ability to throw a very good curve ball in any count. Soon enough, he caught the attention of his dream school and committed to the University of Miami.
Evan, is somewhat of a 2nd Generation Elite Squad player as his older brother (Brendan) played with the Elite Squad since his freshman year and is now entering and playing for Flagler college this year as a freshman! Congratulations to the McKendry family!!
